To Rove Or Not To Rove?

Various sources indicate that Giamatti is in talks with Oliver Stone to star as Karl Rove in Stone's upcoming biopic on George W. Bush. I wonder if Karl Rove will become angry that George Clooney isn't playing him and if so, will he start a "Swift Boat" style smear campaign against our beloved PG?!

May I suggest these Karl, if you are reading:

* Paul Giamatti's father is involved in an organization in which people carry large blunt objects around and hit things with them. Sounds fishy.

* Paul eschewed typical family values by appearing in a movie about shock jock Howard Stern.

* Paul one time supported evil video game culture by appearing as a voice in one. That is one step removed from murdering a child.

See! It's easy. I could go all night folks. Seriously though, this might work. Here is a comparison photo:

Paul is a Dick!

Phillip K. Dick that is. Paul recently signed on to star in "The Owl in Daylight." He'll be playing the esteemed scifi author in an autobiography originally penned by PKD himself. Not too much else is known at this point about the movie. It is slated to be released sometime in 2009. More on this as it develops.

History is fun!

Have you been following the John Adams miniseries on HBO? If not, why?! Do you not care about our founding fathers? Are you anti-American? Geeze folks! If you don't subscribe to HBO right now and start watching then the terrorists have already won. You don't want that, do you?

This is history people! They advertise for this miniseries at the post office so you know it's important.

Here is a trailer.

Paul is a cold, cold soul

Paul recently signed on to star in the genre drama "Cold Souls." In the film he stretches his acting muscle by playing, well, an actor. But not just any actor! He plays an actor who stumbles upon a private lab offering New Yorkers a relief from the burden of their souls.

As a New Yorker, I should be angry but that actually sounds like a great idea! My soul has become an annoyance at this point. I'd hail cabs MUCH easier if I didn't have one.

The film is lensing now and will be released later on in 2008.

Paul! Bruce Campbell! Elvis! Vampires!

Sounds great doesn't it? Well it could happen! Paul Giamatti is in talks to play Colonel Parker to Bruce Campbell's Elvis in the prequel to the cult favorite "Bubba Ho-Tep." The original had Bruce Campbell's Elvis teaming up with Ossie Davis's John Kennedy to fight mummies in a retirement home. Yeah. It was pretty cool. Netflix it.

This one purports to have a younger Elvis teaming up with this manager Colonel Parker to take on vampires on a film shoot.

Oddly, it is Bruce Campbell who is the holdout. He is not sure if he wants to reprise his role as Elvis. Paul has this to say on the matter:

“Bruce Campbell was waffling around about whether he wants to play Elvis or not again. So that’s the problem,” said Giamatti. “You gotta have Elvis and you really want him playing Elvis, so hopefully we can get him to do it. If not, I’m sure they will try and find somebody else but I think it’s contingent on whether he’ll do it or not. It’s a great script, a completely insane script. I would love to do that because I love [Bubba Ho-Tep]. It’s a great movie.”

Let's hope Bruce decides to become a hunka hunka burnin' love once again and kick some major vampire ass!

Here is a trailer for the original film:

Chat em up

Paul recently appeared on Conan to talk about violent new film "Shoot em up." It just occurred to me that Max Weinberg and his infamous seven pick songs to play based on whatever it is the guest is promoting. Check out what they are playing as Paul takes a seat. Paul discusses going to the Oscars dressed as his villainous character from the movie and even compliments Conan on his famous frontal hair swoosh.

SPOILER ALERT: Paul also reveals his fate in the movie. So watch with caution. Why you wanna play us like that Paul? I was going to hit this theater but now I'll just Netflix. I'm just kidding. I already watched it.

Giamatti-action star?

Here is the trailer for the hilariously titled "Shoot Em Up" in which Paul plays a gun crazed villain intent on killing Monica Belucci and child. The angry faces Paul makes during this preview have been giving me nightmares. He looks to really be embracing this part. Oh, yeah. Clive Owen is in it too but we both know who the real action star is! That's right, Harvey Pekar himself, Paul Giamatti. I heard a rumor that he just signed up for Commando 2-Kill em til their dead. Now that one I'll camp out for.

It comes out September 7th.
